Newtown

Originally after visiting the sites in Newtown I was fixed on site 2 on the corner and this was because I could imagine an open art gallery that allowed the public a view inside. However, this isn’t viable as you wouldn’t hang the artworks facing towards the glass and so the public outside of the gallery would only see back of the works. The site was too open thinking logically about the site as a gallery with a glass façade. Site 2 was long orientated which made it seem ideal for a gallery however; I decided that site 3 would provide me with a nice shop front in Newtown with plenty of public pass on goers. I visited the sites both during the day and later at night to have a feel for the area and the traffic around the specific sites.

I have created a 3D model of the site and have been playing around with a few renders. However, this was mainly done to see how the light acts on my desired site. As seen utilising the shadow feature in Sketchup I am able to see where the ideal location of my courtyard would be.

I tried to keep the model simple and just show the mass which includes the levels of surrounding buildings and the roads. I wasn’t too focused on intricate details of the surroundings and only included the street lights of a sense of scale.

Still working with some models to see if I need to spread it across two levels or if I can manage to have a high ceiling art gallery with the owners space out the back parallel to the courtyard.
